My Work Experience Year

My decition for which college to enroll at in the UK all come down to the course Kent Institute of Art & Design offered.

Unlike a "normal" 3 year Bachelor Degree KIAD offered a 4 year course where you did exchange with another college overseas in your 3 year.

I after my first two years of study decided to personalize this year to more of my avantage and decided to do 1 year work experience in Australia instead.

Below I have added a few photos with some notes of each place I worked.

Doing this year was the best choice of my life as it has made me so much more knowledgeable and has definately jumpstarted my career.

Gwendolynne

Whilst doing work experience with Gwendolynne Burkin in Melbourne I got the honour of working on this tutu, a special piece for The Australian Ballet's 25th Anniversary.

It is made out of lace which has been boned and embellished with beads and satin ribbon.

The tutu was display at the Sydney Opera House, amongst other tutu's designed by other Australian designers

Richard Nylon

Richard Nylon is one of Melbourne's most reknown Milliners, he is considered the Australian version of the famous British Milliner Phillip Tracy.

His highly created pieces are always the finishing touches of a beautiful Gwendollyne outfit as the two designers without a doubt always collaborate the most spectacular shows together.

Alex Perry

One of Sydney's if not Australia's most re-known Couturies.

This is one of many beautiful wedding dresses I worked on whilst doing work experience in his exclusive Strand Arcade Studio.

This dress was part of his "Raj Princess Collection" shown under the Australian Mercedes Fashion Week Spring /Summer 2004 collection.

lisah

Lisa Ho

Considered Sydney's or if not Australia's most successful mass premium label.

I spend nearly two months working with her at her Surry Hills Studio, the main highlight was attending the Spring/Summer 04 collection showcased at her Paddington Flagship store.

Ultra feminine, soft fabrics and easy classical and very beautful pieces would describe most of her collections.

My work experience with the brand lili at The Discovery Group lead to the start of my career after college.

I relocated from London to Sydney to work as the Designer for lili.

Some of my sucess has been the lili Eveningwear ranges as photographed here.

Easton Pearson

One of the few Brisbane based Designers.

I spent one month working in their design studio. Fabrics and texture are the most important feature of their design.

One of the few Australian labels that sell their clothes at Browns in London
